St. Joseph Symphony kicks off season on Saturday

The first show of the 2019-20 Saint Joseph Symphony season begins Saturday at the Missouri Theater in St. Joseph.

Music Director of the Saint Joseph Symphony, Rico McNeela, says the show "Meet Me at the Movies - The Final Cut" on Saturday will feature a wide variety of music reflecting his love of film.

"We feature music from Westerns.  We have music from Silverado by Bruce Broughton.  Also Ennio Morricone - his music from the so-called spaghetti westerns, in this case music from The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly.  We also have actually another Morricone on the program.  This is the love theme from Cinema Paradiso.  We're also going to feature music from classical composers that has been used in movies, one of which is The Sorcerer's Apprentice which was featured so prominently in the movie Fantasia that Walt Disney produced.  We're also doing music from Lord of the Rings, and we're going to finish with music from The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly featuring the St. Joseph Community Chorus."

"The Final Cut" also has significance for Maestro McNeela as this will be his final season as music director for the Saint Joseph Symphony. McNeela says he has enjoyed his time with the symphony.

"I think equally important is what's going to be happening next season.  It's going to be a season of tremendous excitement as potential music directors are interviewed and get to demonstrate their skills and show the audience what they might do given the chance."

Meet Me at the Movie - The Final Cut will be Saturday beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Missouri Theater.

Highlights from past St. Joseph Symphony shows can be heard this evening at 9 o'clock on KXCV/KRNW.
